Joy Umogbai is young, creative and an inspiration as she has turned her talent to a money making machine. She speaks to Elora’s Blog in this interview.

Please tell us about your backgound?

My name is Joy Umogbai, I grew up in a close knit family and we are Christians. Growing up was interesting and fun.

You’re an Entrepreneur, what’s your line of business?

I studied Civil Engineering, I’m a milliner (hat,turban,fascinator maker) bouquet, bridal accessories. I also do craft in general like bead making, earrings, bow brooches, bow tie, brooches, boutonnières, hair clips …anything craft, I also do branding (souvenirs)and gifting .

What inspired you to start up your business?

I had dreams ,visions and plans, being self employed was one of them,and I also wanted to be an employer of Labour and independent as well aside that I had a passion for creating things I loved to work with my hands so that was where the inspiration came from.

How were you able to raise fund for your business?

I got some money from a friend to perfect my skill and with the help of the little savings I had I was able to kick off, like the saying goes money isn’t always enough but all you need to do is ‘START’. I started off with little and I began doing jobs for people to generate money for more jobs, at some point I did some free jobs but here I’m today.

How do you advertise your business?

Social media platform has been a helping hand for adverts and I get referrals too.

What are the challenges you’ve faced while running your business?

I see challenges as growth, the more they come the more you grow. One of the challenge I’m faced with is that of getting the raw materials.

How does it feel being your own boss?

It feels so good and rejuvenating ,I have time for myself and I can take decisions at a go unlike when you are working under someone.

Has it been financially rewarding?

It’s has been financially rewarding and fulfilling especially when it’s been done out of love and passion .
It’s not just the money it’s the fulfilled feeling you get.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

I see my brand going diaspora ,I see interviews from different television network services both in and outside Nigeria and I see Eboneezcraft been a household name but all these and more would be made possible by just one person God the creator of the whole universe and also by determination,hard work ,perseverance and consistency .Thank you.
