Thank God for crowning my efforts with a success.
I have to share this to encourage prospective scholars.
I just secured a PhD scholarship (Teaching Assistantship) at the Department of Biological Sciences, University of Alberta, Canada🇨🇦.
After the completion my masters degree in the UK, 2019, it was really tough to get this opportunity since I arrived in Nigeria. Covid-19 Pandemic has been a barrier to achieve my goals.
Between 2019 and 2021, I made 116 PhD applications (90% to USA and UK, 8% to Canada, and 2% to the East) including both direct admissions and advisors’ contact.
I was rejected 113 times and got accepted for 3 positions. My thought was I am going to end up conducting my PhD research in the US or UK🤔🤔. However, two of the advisors in two Universities that accepted me, later sent a rejection email (love letter😥) to me because they could not secure funding and I was also rejected due to travel restrictions placed on international travels in 2020 (the adverse effect of Corona on my applications was so painful😥😥).
The supervisors were willing to offer me, but Covid distabilised 2020 plans across the world.
I had to follow up the one left in Canada. Despite the Omicron variant that was recently announced, which could have caused another blockage from achieving my travel plan to Canada, God came to my rescue and all prayers were answered.
To be honest, a rejected scholar is an angry scholar😀😀🙈🙈 (anyways, I am a gentle man)😀, but I don’t have to give up when God says there is light at the end of tunnel. When we plan ahead and it seems rough, I believe God has a better plan for us👌.
Prayers, Hardwork, consistency and perseverance took me to where I am today.
To all prospective scholars, never give up until you acheive ur goals. We will all come out victorious by God’s grace.
