An hard working lady named Odocha Ogechi as narrated how she left Abuja 10 years ago to Glasgow. She narrated how the cold really affected her but her spiritual director encouraged her to step out into the -3 degrees cold of Scotland where she hustled and worked as a shop cleaner, hair maker, music teacher and more. Today she luxuriate in a castle 🏰 in the Peak District.

Sharing her amazing journey on her linkedIn platform, she captioned it:

By the GRACE of God, I’ve worked hard to be here.
I’ve been FAVOURED.
10 years ago, in tears and fear I left Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport.

Abuja. With a 10 Naira ‘walk-in-talkie’ bag, my MBBS certificates, my novel manuscripts, my Bible, my choir file (still missing…. Please return if you have it).

From 40 degrees in Abuja, I wept for 6hrs till I landed in Heathrow London, then Glasgow airport. Thank you Fr. Thadeo Opara Fmr Assistant to the Bishop Manchester for recognising my surname Odocha.

Turns our he did his Apostolic work in Holy Cross Catholic Church, Ife-Mbaise that my Grandad Chief. Sir. Dr. J. N. Odocha PhD built in 1977, after which he build the first accounting firm East of the river Niger in Igboland.

A family firm still waxing strong.

I gained a spiritual director who encouraged me to step out into the -3 degrees cold of Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿. Umu Chineke I shivered like I had a grand-mal seizure. I wept pellets of frozen 🥶 tears 😭.

The memories make me shiver violently, even as I luxuriate in this castle 🏰 in the Peak District.
My journey from new arrival in the UK 🇬🇧, to shop cleaner, hair maker, music teacher, hospital doctor, GP trainee, GP 👩🏽‍⚕️, prospective MSc student, wife, etc.

PITY doesn’t help anyone. I get on with what life throws at me. Making PEPPERsoup out of PEPPERS. My initials were OSO, then OSE 🫑.

My manager says I’ve lived a colourful life. My 2012 diary 📔 tells me it’s been 10 years since my visa was approved by the immigration office in Abuja, Nigeria 🇳🇬.
