Lady Shares How She Ended Up Managing A Poultry Business She Was Skeptical About While Growing Up
A lady named Hilda N. Brown has shared a story on how she started managing a poultry business. She watched her mum rearing chickens as a little child. She never wanted to be a part of this kind of business.
The poultry business was owned by her brother until he relocated abroad for his studies, and presently her mum is sick, she had no choice as she started managing the business.
She said something remarkable:
“That thing you think is not your calling maybe where your breakthrough lies”.
Read her post below;
That thing you think is not your calling maybe where your breakthrough lies.
From my childhood years, I watched my mum rear chickens on a small to medium scale, for commercial and consumption purposes.
In the week of Christmas, she would sell some while we used the others to celebrate the season. There was always enough to eat and give to friends and neighbours.
The only thing I enjoyed doing was eating chicken, I disliked every poultry task. However, my mum made sure everyone of us handled one chore or the other.
Her slogan was “If you must eat, you must work.”
All through my growing up years, I never in my wildest dream imagined I’d own, co-own or manage a poultry business. It was just not my thing, so I thought.
Interestingly, I now manage a poultry and pig farm.
It’s business my brother set up and managed for some years, raised money to sponsor furthering his studies in another country.
He handed the business over to my mum but as it stands now, her health won’t allow her so the farm management was transferred to me.
After going through the books, I decided to look beyond the dirt and smell (which was the cause of my dislike). Moreover, I won’t be doing the field work but supervising and managing.
I used to say poultry business is not my calling. But, I discovered farming is a goldmine and making money is my calling so I am ready to jump on it.
This is a whole lot considering I have a 9 to 5 and a few other things I do on the side. But, I’m willing to learn, grow and take the business to another level.
As humans, we are dynamic beings. In your search for a better life, opportunities, growth, business or whatever, never limit yourself.
Be as open as possible because that thing you think is not your thing or calling maybe where your breakthrough lies. I just added farming to my list but wouldn’t have even in my dreams.
I am open to suggestions, recommendations and online or in-person training opportunities in poultry and pig farm management.
Thank you❤️
Hilda
