She Got A 4 Year Military Scholarship To Virginia State University At Age 17, She Served At The US Army & Officially Signed Out Of Duty After 11 Incredible Years

A young lady named Deshauna Barber has shared her journey into the US Army.

Deshauna was only 17
years old, when she made one of the best decisions of her life by choosing to accept a four-year military scholarship to Virginia State University.

With this scholarship, she became a cadet at Virginia State University Trojan Warrior Battalion and after 4.5 years of school and ROTC, she was commissioned as a Quartermaster officer in the United States Army Reserve. Say It was the best decision she could’ve made for her life.

Wow! I can’t believe I am about to say this, but on July 1st, 2022, I officially signed out of duty from the US Army . After 11 incredible years, I have been honorably discharged from the United States Army Reserve 🇺🇸

In 2007, at 17 years old, I made one of the best decisions of my life by choosing to accept a four-year military scholarship to Virginia State University With this scholarship, I became a cadet at Virginia State University Trojan Warrior Battalion and after 4.5 years of school and ROTC, I was commissioned as a Quartermaster officer in the United States Army Reserve. It was the best decision I could’ve made for my life.

I can’t express how thankful I am to have served this country for over 11 years. I have met so many amazing people, traveled to unique places, and was even able to open a door into a new era of pageantry by being crowned the first soldier to win Miss USA !!

There are so many things I could say about this journey, but there isn’t enough room in this caption to showcase my gratitude at this moment, so I am keeping it short.

As I step into this new chapter as a veteran, I look forward to continuing my work by serving military women and veterans through my position as President of Service Women’s Action Network (SWAN)
