You’re an Entrepreneur, please tell us more about your business?

I started Adyva foods in July 2016 as an event catering company based in Lagos, Nigeria. From Lagos we have catered events all over the country, now set to manage your food needs and serve your guests at your events all over the globe. We also cook and deliver soups, stews and sauces that cut across different ethnic groups in Nigeria at very affordable prices.

What inspired you to start up your business?
I used to work as a community manager /social media manager with a renowned advertising agency. I knew my job but I didn’t enjoy it. Then, I’d close from work at 9pm and on my way home, i shop for condiments, wake up at 3am and cook for my teammates. Despite the stress, I didn’t mind, I did it with so much joy. My satisfaction came from seeing that my teammates enjoyed the meal. That’s how the journey started, few months down the line, I resigned from my then job and started Adyva Foods full time with barely N50, 000 ($138) in my savings account. From this money, I purchased a good phone to help me take great pictures of my work. I also printed 1000 stickers at N15, 000 ($42) bought new pots and utensils.
When I started, I had all the help I needed from my family. My siblings were there to help and my mother! My mother really helped a great deal.

What are the challenges you’ve faced while running your business?
The biggest challenge I faced when I started was Convincing clients that a new business could handle their jobs and wouldn’t ruin it. As I started getting more jobs, the referrals started coming. Today, I don’t get that much skepticism from people anymore.

I made sure to put in my best in every job I got. I barely made profit from most jobs I got when I started, I was just too concerned about doing a perfect job. I made sure to ask and ask clients what they wanted and did it to their exact specifications. …click link in bio to continue the story.
