Meet Entrepreneur Adedokun Agunbiade, Co-founder Of Ropay, The Company Uses
Technology To Solve Payroll Problems

Young innovative Entrepreneur, Adedokun Agunbiade is the Co-founder of Ropay.

Ropay is a payroll management software that helps African businesses with the use of technology to solve payroll problems. He speaks to Elorasblog in this interview.

Please tell us a little bit about your background?

Hi, my name is Adedokun Agunbiade.
I am a financial/data/business analyst and also a full-stack developer. Upon finishing school in 2012, I did a lot of jobs spanning several industries including; education, telecoms, fashion, FMCG, and technology. I was the CFO of Whogohost Limited before we started roPay in February 2021.

What motivated you to start up Ropay?

Starting roPay actually started from a personal need when I was CFO of Whogohost. I needed a payroll solution that would be tailored to my specific organizational need. I then decided to build a solution because I knew the problem and also I knew how to use technology to solve that problem. Then I met my co-founders. After sharing the idea with them, we synced and here we are giving the best solution to our clients.

What are the services provided by Ropay?

Like I always say, roPay is a complete end-to-end payroll solution. The services we currently offer include;

Employee management
Salary computation, disbursement, and payslip automation.
Pension disbursement and filing to Pension Fund Administrations.
Tax payment and filing. (Currently, to LIRS, other state IRS coming soon).
Other statutory compliance payments and filing (NHF, NHIS, NSITF, ITF).

Coming Soon:
 Payroll Financing
 Earned Wage Access
Cross-border payroll computation, disbursement, and  statutory compliance filing.

All our services are fully technology-powered, with the best data security possible.

How did you come up with this business idea?

As I said earlier, I had a need before and I knew technology enough to understand that it can be built and made dynamic enough to be of value to many businesses. I asked a lot of professional colleagues if they had the same challenge and they said that they did. Most of them currently use our platform at the moment. Also, meeting with my co-founders and how our skills complement each other further helped us to actualize it.

Ropay uses technology to solve payroll problems, why is it vital for companies to utilize your services?

It is very vital. For a fact, I know that a lot of companies have paid millions in compliance penalties, and also some pensions remitted are not truly remitted. We help to solve these and also allow our business owners to spend less time worrying about their payroll. We are also not very expensive for businesses.

What are the major challenges you’ve encountered and also setbacks you’ve faced doing this business?

One of our earlier set-back was getting funding to get the right team around the product, but we have funding now and we are moving very fast. Right now we are moving fast.

In Nigeria talented entrepreneurs hardly get support from the government, how does this affect you?

Yes, this is true. But as we can see, some private venture firms (both local and international) are investing in startups. We have several of them, Tekedia capital (Lead this funding round), YC, Techstars, and the likes. We also had support from individuals in the early on; Opeyemi Awoyemi, Olalekan Olude, Oo Nwoye, Prof. Ndubuisi Ekekwe and they are still supporting us to date.

What are your best customers feedback, are they impressed with your services?

Our customers are very pleased with our product and are even referring other businesses to us, which is pivotal to our growth as a business.

Where do you see Ropay in 5 years?

The vision is huge. We expect to have taken over payroll on the African continent, The target is to be in at least 10-20 African countries. Be the main force in Payroll in Africa. The idea is when people think about payroll, the first thing they should think about should be roPay.
