I got kicked out of Medical School in 2007! Interesting story, tough lesson! I had gotten the Eliaf scholarship to go to medical school at the University of Ilorin, made a 293 Jamb score. Super outspoken church boy, read the Bible 4 times and won Interdenominational Bible quiz completion.
So the Church funded my school. But I got kicked out in 200L. What happened? The rules were quite simple. To move from level 1 to 2, you must have a 3.0 CGPA and never have anything less than a Credit. I thought to myself- 3.0 CGPA is near easy. I blazed through the first year with ease and life happened.
A friend called me that the school had excess of 150 students and needed to adjust its policy. It was no longer going to be about 3.0 CGPA but something else. Don’t have more than 3Cs. I had about 3.9 CGPA but had 4 Cs. I was dropped!
The lessons are with me forever.
- Don’t ever be overrated! Early success is a big temptation. Early success means two things; work like your life depends on it and be ready for the early dose of challenges!
- When it comes to the next stage, remember everyone is a star. And when it comes to sitting with other stars, the rules no longer apply.
- Change is constant and life will throw changes at you- be ready for change. What you have might be taken away from you! Be ready to bounce back always. Bouncing back must be your default setting.
