A determined young man named Bukola Owolabi who didn’t relent in fulfilling his dreams of becoming a Medical Doctor has finally succeeded.

Sharing the challenges he encountered before he finally got admission to study Medicine, he shared a quote from his mentor saying:

“There is nothing to be ashamed of. You didn’t fail. You just didn’t satisfy the examiner. Look inward and prepare again. May God prosper your ways”.

Read his post on LinkedIn;

Excited to embark on my journey of beginning my Residency Training in Surgery.

After writing JAMB and still couldn’t secure admission into my dream course. I was given an alternative course at Obafemi Awolowo University to study Soil science in the Faculty of Agriculture.
I wrote JAMB again as an undergraduate and finally gained admission to study Medicine and Surgery at the University of Lagos.

During my undergraduate days, I was being called NSU (an acronym for Neurosurgery unit) due to my involvement in the unit activities, presentations at NANS (Nigerian Academy of Neurological Surgeons) conference and dream of becoming a Neurosurgeon.
Although i was discouraged on several occasions by colleagues, some will even mock in disguise at the mention of NSU, but I kept being focused and determined.

Like my mentor once told me; “There is nothing to be ashamed of. You didn’t fail. You just didn’t satisfy the examiner. Look inward and prepare again. May God prosper your ways.

Today, I am a Medical doctor and have commenced my Residency Training Programme in Surgery and in few years will be a Consultant Neurosurgeon

Like a colleague once said, Today is the yesterday we dreamt about, tomorrow is the result of our decision and actions today.

All your dreams are valid, walk and work towards them. God will prosper your ways.

I am Dr Owolabi Bukola Samuel. All our dreams can come true if we have the courage to pursue them.

I wish you well.
