Lady Who Spent 4 Months On Sick Bed The Last Year, Gets Scholarship, Starts Masters In U.K This Year
Determined lady named Kendra Jumbo who was literally down (sick) for a space of 4months last year, did not give up on her dreams as she kept applying for scholarship.
She never evisaged that her childhood dreams of schooling abroad would come to pass.
Sharing the exciting news in her LinkedIn platform, she wrote;
It still feels so surreal. I wake up everyday, pull my curtains apart and stare into the beautiful sky and thank God for His leading and Blessings. I couldn’t have made it this far without God. This time last year, I had already spent 4 months on my sick bed, almost giving up on my dreams, on life, on my future. A voice in my head kept telling me “these opportunities are not going to wait around for you to get well, the world will move on”. I had every reason to lay in bed, do nothing and focus on recovery, but I picked up my laptop and started applying for scholarships.
I first started my Chevening application, I couldn’t finish it cause I became depressed. Commonwealth shared came and my mentor encouraged me to send in applications.
I got nominated by 2 universities and I got a Vice Chancellor’s scholarship from one other University. The day the email came into my phone, I was almost breathless. I couldn’t believe it. I still pinch myself to be sure I’m really living my dreams. Indeed, it has always been a dream to pursue my Masters degree abroad, but I thought about the expenses and be most times, I just hissed and moved on with my life.
Today, I am on a fully funded Commonwealth Shared Scholarship for my Master’s degree in the UK.
This post is to encourage someone out there. Don’t let that health challenge (mine was really bad), the financial challenge, your past, or fear of the future stop you from going after your dreams. The sky is big enough for everyone to shine. Don’t envy anyone, but work hard to prove yourself and take your place at the table. You deserve a place there.
For the student about to throw in the towel, pls don’t. Your hard work will pay off and you’ll realize that it pays to be diligent. Like I always say, never stop believing in yourself, you can be whatever you want to be and do whatever you set your mind to do. Your dreams are valid, they aren’t too big. Stop looking down on yourself.
