“I’ve Made Huge Progress In 11 Months”- Says Lady Who Left Her Job In Nigeria & Relocated To Canada With Her Family

Claire I. who relocated to Canada with her family after resigning from her job has shared her journey so far. Says she has made huge progress in as little as 11months.

She went further to share a motivation advising young women, she wrote:

“Women who are taking big steps and making major changes career-wise, hang in there. Your efforts might not seem like they’re yielding anything, but in the end you’ll be glad you didn’t give up”.

It’s been almost one year since I relocated to Canada and it’s left me reflecting on the past 11 months. I left my job and comfort zone as an Optometrist and Lecturer at a Federal University in Nigeria for want of a better life for myself and my children.

I came into this country with little, but a burning desire to succeed. I decided to transition to project management as I discovered I had all the transferable skills and experience the job required from my previous roles. I laid out a plan for myself and I’m glad that in less than one year I have ticked almost all the boxes on my to-do list regarding my future career path.

I can not say that it has been an easy journey combining pursuing a 2nd postgraduate degree, figuring out my new career path, taking all the steps to achieve my career ambitions, and being the best wife and mom to my husband and children. But, even on the days when I feel like I’m drowning, I show up and give it my best. I am very far from where I want to be, but I believe that I have made huge progress in as little as 11months. I cannot wait to see what the future holds for me.

I am putting this out here to encourage myself and every one, especially women who are taking big steps and making major changes career-wise, hang in there. Your efforts might not seem like they’re yielding anything, but in the end you’ll be glad you didn’t give up.
