“In U.K Looking For Job Is A Job”, Says Man Who Finally Got A Job At Construction Company

A man named Nelson Dotun Omogbemi has narrated the challenges he encountered while looking for a job in the U.K.

Even his friend who had his master’s in u.k discouraged him because of his personal experiences of doing menial job.

But Nelson’s case was different, because he made some smart moves. He connected with QHSE professionals in the UK through LinkedIn and asked questions, he finally got a job.

He shared his story on LinkedIn, read below:

I relocated to the UK in the course of the year and one thing I made my mind on was to get into my profession as a first job. I remember a colleague at work who did his masters in the UK way back. He told tales of how in his words, he washed “yash tire” (feces) . So many tales but I knew that wasn’t going to be my story.

I trusted God, paid LinkedIn premium, connected with QHSE professionals in the UK and asked questions, did UK recognized certifications among others. During quarantine, I got my first job and it was applying for jobs. Truly, looking for job is a job. I got on my system before 8am and surf till about midnight doing all manner of applications. After all, I could not go out anyway. I got my first job as a HSE Advisor in a construction company days after quarantine. I am privileged to work with a great set of colleagues. Though being the only non British in the entire team, the tale of racism sung to my ears in Nigeria fell apart like a pack of cards. They have treated me fairly than even Nigerian employers did.

If you are looking at relocating in the new year, I know its most likely same for other countries. The market is open, they really dont care about your color, there is really no limitation. Ask questions from professional in your destination country while still in your home country, dont just believe tales from people who either dont know or have forgotten the location of an international airport. If there are qualifications and certifications you can do from your home country, explore them. Above all trust God, trust God and trust God. See you on 2022.
