Hiya Linkedin 👋🏿. It’s been a long time since I’ve posted on here but I’ve had some time to reflect on the last few months so here’s an update!
Firstly, I’ve officially finished medical school. From starting my journey at King’s College London in 2015 I can officially announce that I am now Dr Barbara Falana. I’ve known this since March and months later it still hasn’t sunk in but I’m sure it will start to become real over the next few weeks especially after graduation!
I want to use this opportunity to say a huge thank you to Kathleen (Kay) Leedham-Green for being such an amazing role model and mentor to me.
I’m also grateful to announce that I’ll be working in Barts Health NHS Trust come August which also means the world to me. It’s always been a dream of mine to work as a doctor within my local community and to be able to achieve this milestone so early in my career is a real blessing.
Secondly, I finally had my iBsc graduation at Imperial College Business School in March. I finished my ibsc in 2020 and so my graduation day felt a little like a blast from the past. But I’m super grateful for the year because I learnt a lot of valuable life lessons particularly about dealing with uncertainties, the importance of taking breaks and I learnt the importance of being vulnerable and asking for help when it is required.
Despite leaving with a first class degree in Healthcare Management it’s safe to say I learnt a lot more than just some concepts in a classroom!
Thirdly, I completed my elective with the Faculty of Medical Leadership and Management. I wasn’t quite sure what to expect from this elective but I can honestly say that I was blown away by how excellent it was. I am particularly grateful to my supervisors Dr Keerthini Muthuswamy and Dr Claire Edwin
as well CEO Peter Lees for their wise words and support throughout. Particularly for instilling the belief in me that all doctors are leaders by virtue of the wonderful career that we have chosen to pursue.
I for one cannot wait too see what the next chapter holds for me as both a doctor and a leader.
Congratulations to her.
