COVID-19: Intensify Your Research, Buhari Challenges Nigerian Universities to Develop Vaccine
President Buhari has tasked universities in the country to develop a COVID-19 vaccine to tackle the dreaded virus The Nigerian leader on Saturday, November 27, said the development of the vaccine would fortify the immune system of citizens against the virus.
According to the president, his administration is committed to tackling the challenges of sustainable funding for research.
Universities across Nigeria have been challenged to intensify their research in order to develop the COVID-19 vaccine to tackle the virus afflicting the West African country and the world. The Guardian reports that President Muhammadu Buhari gave the task on Saturday, November 27, at the 5th and 6th combined convocation of the Federal University Dutsin-Ma (FUDMA). President Buhari has admonished universities to intensify their research to develop COVID-19 vaccine.
The Nigerian leader who was represented by the minister of state for education, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, explained that Nigerians’ immune system against the virus would be fortified with the development of the vaccine.
According to him, Nigerian Universities were supposed to be centres for scientific and technological discoveries, inventions, and values as well as drivers of societal development, The Punch added.
The president maintained that his administration is committed to tackling the challenges of sustainable funding for research, capacity building and employment creation.
