Novlene has shown great bravery many times, one of which was competing in a 4x400m a short while after she was diagnosed with cancer.
Novlene William-Mills, a Jamaican 400m athlete and a cancer survivor has gone public on how she conquered the disease. She said she is excited that she is expecting a set of twins as she looks forward to a totally new chapter of her life.
In speaking with The Gleaner, she said she had always been scared about having a child with her cancer status. It should be noted that a short time after she was diagnosed with the disease, she competed at the London Games and got a silver medal in the 4x400m relay race.
Despite having gone through major surgeries to fight off cancer, including a mastectomy, Novelene, and her husband said they are joyfully expecting the delivery of their twins. “It has really been a blessing for me and my husband with all that we have been through. When I found out that I was pregnant I said ‘OK, we have an addition to the family,’ but when the doctor told me there were two heartbeats, I said ‘excuse me, did you just say two,’” she said. One of her proud moments as a sportswoman was when she outran the popular American Francena McCorory in 4x400m relays at the World Championships in Beijing.
