“They’re Learning That Their Dad’s Blindness Isn’t Something To Feel Sorry For”-Nigerian Lady Shares What Raising Her Kids With Their Blind Dad Has Taught Her
Raising my 5 and 3 year-old with their blind dad has taught me something powerful:
Parenting isn’t about limitation, it’s about intention, love, and creativity.
Some days, I watch my children guide their dad with confidence and care… and I realize I’m not just raising kids.
I’m raising compassionate humans.
At 5 and 3, they’re already learning what many people take a lifetime to understand:
that not everyone experiences the world the same way,
that love is shown through patience,
that strength can be quiet,
and that helping isn’t a burden ,it’s a privilege.
They’re learning that their dad’s blindness isn’t something to feel sorry for, it’s something that has made our family stronger, deeper, and more connected.
In our home, it’s not his blindness that defines us, it’s the way we communicate, support, and care for each other.
And in the middle of it all, I see two little hearts growing into something truly beautiful.
Because here, love isn’t measured by what we can see…
but by everything we can feel. ❤️
