Sharing a lengthy post on LinkedIn explaining the challenges she encountered while studying for her master’s and also job search experiences, she wrote:
My First LinkedIn Post!
I don’t know why I’ve been so shy to post. It’s always been a dream of mine to get my master’s at NYU. What started off as an exhilarating and memorable journey, suddenly became a daunting and overwhelming experience introduced by pandemic stress. Imposter syndrome kicked in and I developed severe word block during my second year of grad school. I literally had no words left in me. I felt so demotivated and the thought of finishing school felt like pulling teeth.
I persevered through the support of loving friends and families and graceful professors. I am a first generation college graduate and the only person in my family to pursue a master’s degree. I’m so happy I didn’t give up on school.
But then Job search came around…
I submitted over 100 applications through a duration of 7 months! After multiple interviews, countless rejection emails, and turning down several lowball offers, I reached my breaking point.
I can’t count how many nights I cried. How many times I prayed. I tried everything in my capacity until I finally gave up and lost hope. This was a test in my faith, my patience, and my drive. It was the humanistic nature in me to want for something on my own terms at my own time, but…
“They plan and Allah plans. Surely, Allah is the best of planners.” Quran 8|30
Almost a year after graduating, I finally accepted my first BIG GIRL JOB! Alhamdullilah!
I love my job! I’m living in my answered prayers. I’m also confident that bigger and better opportunities will be presented. I’m thankful for where I am. But as The Great Kobe once said, “The job’s not finished.” This is only the beginning.
Sometimes we think we are being rejected from something good, but really we are being redirected to something better.
Never lose hope.
