Pres. Tinubu Is Hale And Hearty And Working Remotely. He Does Not Need To Be Physically Present In Nigeria To Do His Work — Presidency

The Presidency has responded to concerns over President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s continued absence from Nigeria, assuring Nigerians that the President is hale and hearty and remains engaged in official duties.

Tinubu had travelled for a three-week vacation but did not return as initially expected. His Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, subsequently disclosed that the President had extended his vacation by “a few days.”

Reacting to growing questions about the President’s whereabouts, Onanuga said Tinubu did not need to be physically present in Abuja to perform his duties.

“Nigeria’s President is hale and hearty. He has been on a working vacation, which he is perfectly entitled to. In this digital age, he does not need to be physically present in Abuja to do the work for which he was elected in 2023,” Onanuga said.

He added that Tinubu had been working during the trip, including meeting investors in France and facilitating a $7bn deep-sea port project in Ogun Waterside, an initiative of the Ogun State Government.

On Tinubu’s absence from the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, Onanuga noted that South African President Cyril Ramaphosa and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi also did not attend the UNGA.

He said Tinubu had announced his annual vacation and delegated Nigeria’s representation to Vice President Kashim Shettima, while accusing Peter Obi of pretending not to know the President’s whereabouts.

Onanuga said Tinubu is expected to return to Nigeria this week to mark the country’s 66th Independence Anniversary and attend the Lagos premiere of a film honouring the late MKO Abiola.
