Osun Election: Davido Should Focus On Making Good Music To Win A Grammy— Edo Commissioner Kassim Afegbua Fires Back At Singer Over His Appeal To Trump

The Edo State Government has criticised Afrobeats singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, for calling on United States President Donald Trump to pay attention to the forthcoming Osun State governorship election.

Davido had urged Trump and the international community to monitor the election, citing concerns about possible vi%lence, intimidation and interference with the voting process.

Responding to the singer’s appeal, Edo State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Prince Kassim Afegbua, faulted Davido for involving himself in the political matter.

Speaking during a press briefing in Benin City, Afegbua said Davido should concentrate on his music career and work towards winning a Grammy rather than becoming involved in politics.

The commissioner described the singer’s thre@t to write Trump as “arrant nonsense” and defended Governor Monday Okpebholo’s decision to campaign for the All Progressives Congress candidate in the Osun election.

Afegbua also dismissed an alleged academic result of Okpebholo circulating online, insisting that the document was fake and claiming that he had seen the governor’s authentic result showing that he holds a Master’s degree.

He further criticised Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, referring to him as a “dancer” and questioning whether there was anything wrong with having a dancer as governor.

“We are looking for votes from Osun. We are telling them to vote for serious-minded people,” Afegbua said.

He maintained that party members should support their candidates and expressed hope that the APC candidate would emerge victorious in Saturday’s election.

“Davido, who should be in the studio to record good music, has become a politician,” he said, adding that “governance is serious business.”
