Read his post below as shared on LinkedIn:

7 years ago, I applied for a 50,000 naira salary job after my MSC program.

I was referred to the opportunity by my uncle. I was so excited, finally I get to leave my apartment every day!! On the day of the interview, I woke up early and drove down to the office HQ at Mushin, Lagos. The company was a Microfinance Bank situated in Mushin Market.

During the interview, I had a conversation with the MD, he was really excited about my profile. He further explained that the role was a Marketing and Technology support role, he also talked about the salary, 50,000 naira monthly. I didn’t mind, I was even more excited because it presented the opportunity to build capacity and gain experience in two business units.

In the end, I was not employed. My tired was tired, I asked myself a lot of questions: Was my profile too intimidating, was it because I drove down to the location, was I not qualified enough for the 50k role as well 🥲, was I looking too desperate or maybe I should have negotiated for a higher renumeration? I was really worried.

Today, a company I’m privileged to lead has trained and developed employees of over 1000 companies since August 2019. Two months ago, our company also won the “Startup of the Year Award” by AOT Lagos and the Lagos State Government.

In 2023, we have served and partnered with organizations like Access Bank, Prudent Energy, Interswitch, Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority, Honeywell Group, Lagos State Employment Trust Fund and many more..

Dear Amazing Youth, I know you are tired of the rejections, maybe frustrated about your slow/no growth and even gotten to the point where you don’t truly believe in yourself anymore.

I charge you to consistently learn a Technology skill for 6 months, develop your soft skills, intentionally give value first to people, follow up and follow through with your goals, keep building your personal brand and pray fervently.

Whenever you feel like quitting, always remember why you started and steadily water the plant you sow to reap.

This will definitely help.
