“When I arrived in Canada as a student in 2014, I knew what I wanted: to go to school and also make some money.
So the 20-hour-a-week job was not enough for me. I decided to find another way to make money that does not count towards my hours but counts as a business. Guess what I found?
Taxi driving. I started as a taxi driver at night for 4 days a week and attended school during the day. In Newfoundland, I was one of the first black students who started driving taxis and was making about $1500 a week in cash 😄. That’s over $6000 a month as a student. It helped me a lot with my school fees.
I managed to have my wedding as a student, and I did not face any financial difficulties. I ended up introducing many black students to taxi driving, and it became one of the ways black students could make good money in Newfoundland, specifically St. John’s. If you are in a province where Uber is allowed, consider doing Uber and thank me later”.
