  • Nigeria has recorded 31 new deaths and 490 new cases of Covid-19 across 16 states
  • NCDC announced the development on Tuesday night as total infections now hit 17,148
  • Lagos still remains the epicentre of the coronavirus pandemic with 7,461 cases.

The fight against the coronavirus pandemic suffered a setback as Nigeria recorded 31 deaths and 490 new cases of Covid-19 on Tuesday, June 16.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control NCDC), in a tweet, announced the new cases in 16 states which brought the total confirmed infections to 17,148.

The disease control agency announced 142 in Lagos, 60 in the Federal Capital Territory FCT) Abuja, 54 cases in Bayelsa, 39 in Rivers and 37 in Delta. NCDC also announced 30 fresh cases in Oyo, 26 cases in Kaduna. Imo has 23 new cases while Enugu and Kwara states have 19 and 17 cases respectively.

Ondo recorded 10 new cases while Bauchi has 8 cases. Coronavirus hits Lagos hard as state records more deaths Nigeria has recorded 31 new deaths and 490 new cases of Covid-19 in 16 states.

Ogun state came behind with 7 cases, followed by Borno which has 6 and Benue state with just one case. 5,623 people have been discharged having successfully survived the virus while total fatalities now stand on 455 after 31 deaths were recorded in 24 hours. Lagos still remains the epicentre of the coronavirus pandemic in Nigeria with 7461 cases.
