My Mum Would Have Died if I Hadn’t Won BBNaija, Says Laycon
Laycon, the Nigerian rapper, says his victory in the fifth edition of the Big Brother Naija (BBNaija) reality show was instrumental in saving his mother’s life.
Speaking in the recent episode of ‘Echo Room’ podcast hosted by Teddy A, a former BBNaija housemate, Laycon said his mother was already seriously ill before he entered the competition.
The reality star said while he was confined to the house, her condition deteriorated significantly without his knowledge or presence.
He further explained that by the time the show ended and he returned home, his mother was near death
“I said it in the house. When I was in the house, my mum was ill,” he said.
“By the time I came out, my mum was close to death.”
Laycon asserted that finishing as runner-up would have had devastating consequences for his family.
“I am saying it categorically now, if I didn’t win that show, If I had gone and came back second, my mum would be dead now,” he said.
Born Olamilekan Agbeleshebioba, the 32-year-old music star rose to prominence after he won the BBNaija reality show in 2020.
He released his long-awaited mixtape ‘Kashimaawoo’ — a deeply personal project dedicated to his late father.
The rapper previously revealed that he lost his “inner voice” after winning the BBNaija reality show.
