‘Grief Is An Unwelcome Companion’ — Patrick Doyle Speaks On Death Of Newborn Child

Patrick Doyle, the ace Nigerian actor, has opened up about dealing with the pain of losing his newborn daughter.

A few days ago, the actor shared that he and his wife Olufunmilayo had welcomed Omayinuwa, their first child together.

But by the following day, the celebration turned to sorrow as Patrick revealed that the baby had died shortly after coming into the world.

Speaking about the tragedy in a recent Facebook post, the actor described grief as a “familiar” and “unwelcome companion” whose constant presence reshapes one’s reality.

He also reflected on the weight of grief and the personal losses he has endured over the years, adding that he is still standing because of “the strength of God”.

“There are moments in life when words feel too small for the weights we carry. Grief, it is not an event; it is a companion. Familiar, unwelcome yet ever present. I stand before you not as one who has read about sorrow but as one who has walked in it,” he said.

“I have known the pain of losing a beloved wife, the heartbreak of burying a son and now the fresh wound of laying to rest a child born only a few days ago. And yet in the midst of all this, I can say with conviction, I am still standing. Not because I am strong in myself but because I am held by a strength greater than my own.”
