Man Whose PHD Scholarship Application Got Rejected 50 Times Finally Succeeds, Shares Inspirational Message
Man named Olúwáṣeun E. Adédèjì, has shared an amazing testimony to encourage someone who has been rejected.
While celebrating his present status, he recounted the challenges and rejection he went through but never gave up.
Sharing on LinkedIn, he wrote;
Your best applications may be rejected not because they weren’t good enough but because what is yours is still on the way.
I submitted over 50 #applications to schools in the USA, Canada, Denmark, Sweden, Germany and France when I was searching for a #PhD #opportunity. The best of those applications were all rejected.
The email that got my supervisor’s attention was one of the simplest ones I ever sent. A basic introduction of myself and a few lines in the body. I even missed a letter in the spelling of his name (like really?). I was shocked to have received an #interview invitation.
During my interview, my (soon-to-be) supervisor told me he still has 6 other candidates to interview and I will hear from him in 2 weeks. To my surprise, I got a confirmation email in a few hours! He has agreed to supervise and fund my program.
My excitement was uncontrollable. I still remember my mom, one of my brothers, and my pastor who sat around the dining table listening to my interview in the background were still around. This is to tell you how quickly it happened.
Three days later, I received my official funding and admission letter by mail (I had requested for a courier delivery).
Till today, I can’t explain what was different about that email that made it work. It was a template I used for many others. I guess the timing was just right (which is something that cannot be predicted).
I am sharing this story so you can take away the following lessons:
●When you get rejections, it does not mean you are not good enough.
●Rejections should not stop you from trying over and over again.
●When it is your turn, things will fall in line. What is yours will not pass you by.
●Don’t over-judge yourself over simple mistakes and give people chances when they make mistakes.
●The same thing can yield different results in different situations.
Stay blessed
