Law School Student Dies After Falling From Lagos Campus Hostel Rooftop
The management of the Nigerian Law School says it has commenced an investigation after Faith Alayande, a 23-year-old student, was pronounced dead following a rooftop fall at the Lagos campus hostel on Friday.
In a statement on Monday, Aderonke Osho, secretary to the council and director of administration, said the deceased was a student of the Nigerian Law School, Enugu campus, who was undergoing externship programme at the Lagos campus.
Osho said preliminary findings revealed that the student died from injuries sustained after falling from the rooftop of the campus hostel around 4am on Friday.
“Preliminary information indicates that, at about 4:00am on Friday, 7 August 2026, the student fell from the rooftop of the hostel at the Campus and, sadly, succumbed to the incident,” the statement reads.
“The Nigerian Law School is deeply saddened by this tragic development.
“Management is working closely with the appropriate authorities and the family to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident, ensure that all necessary procedures are duly followed, and provide further information as appropriate.”
The management condoled with the deceased’s family, colleagues and others affected by the incident, while offering its thoughts and prayers to the family.
It said the family had requested privacy and appealed to the public and the media to respect their wishes and give them space to mourn.
“The Management of the Nigerian Law School respectfully appeals to everyone to honour the family’s wishes and refrain from any actions that may further compound their grief at this difficult moment,” the statement added.
The law school reaffirmed its commitment to the safety, welfare and wellbeing of all its students and staff.
While confirming the incident, the Lagos police command had said the hostel matron reported the case after the student was found unresponsive on the premises.
The police said its operatives visited the scene and evacuated the deceased’s body to a morgue, adding that an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death was ongoing.
