
Man Graduates From The Same University He Worked As A Cleaner
Francis Addo, a determined African man from Ghana, fulfilled his lifelong dream by graduating from Ashesi University.
Starting as a cleaner at the university, he envisioned himself as a student and eventually enrolled in 2019. During his time at Ashesi, Francis achieved significant accomplishments, one of which is serving as President of the Mastercard Foundation Scholars.
Francis Addo, a determined young man from Ghana, has accomplished a lifelong dream that has become a source of inspiration for many. Starting as a cleaner at Ashesi University while still in junior high school, Francis was inspired to envision himself as a student at the institution one day.
In 2015, Francis made the decision to leave his cleaning job and pursue his education as a senior high school student. Determined to make his dream a reality, he sought information and guidance on how to enroll at Ashesi University. According to a post on Ashesi University’s Facebook page, Francis’s dream finally came to fruition in 2019 when he joined the class of 2023 at the renowned Ghanaian institution.
During his time at Ashesi University, Francis achieved notable accomplishments. He served as a representative of the Mastercard Foundation Scholars, played a role in the Judicial Executive Council, and was eventually elected President of the Mastercard Foundation Scholars. The post fully reads: In 2015, Francis Addo embarked on his journey to Senior High School with the unwavering determination to attend Ashesi University. Having previously worked at Ashesi as a Cleaner after Junior High School, Francis took advantage of that opportunity to have conversations with students and staff, gathering valuable insights about Ashesi and how he could gain admission.
Eventually, in 2019, Francis’s dream came true as he joined Ashesi’s class of 2023, which he fondly describes as the best time of his life. During his time at Ashesi, Francis actively participated in extracurricular activities and was an active member of the Ashesi Community. He was a representative of the Mastercard Foundation Scholars, representing the institution at various summits and conferences across Africa.
Francis also served in the Judicial Executive Council and volunteered as a buddy for first-year students, providing support and guidance as they transitioned into university life. His commitment led him to become a Resident Assistant for Walter Sisulu Hall, where he contributed to fostering a vibrant and inclusive living community. Eventually, he was elected President of the Mastercard Foundation Scholars at Ashesi, further amplifying his impact on campus.
“Before I came to Ashesi, I was fully aware of the abundant opportunities available to me as a students,” Francis shared. “With that in mind, I created a list of goals I wanted to achieve, and today, I can proudly say that I have ticked all the boxes. Although I faced failures in my first year, those experiences helped shape my understanding of who I am and what I can aspire to become.”
