Lawmakers Need To Make It Mandatory That Politicians’ Children School in Nigeria – Actor Akah Nnani Agrees That Meaningful Improvements In The Country’s Education System Will Only Happen When Those in Power Are Directly Affected By Its Shortcomings
Actor Akah Nnani has called for greater accountability from Nigeria’s political leaders, arguing that meaningful improvements in the country’s education system will only happen when those in power are directly affected by its shortcomings.
Speaking during an interview with Morayo Afolabi-Brown on The Morayo Show, Akah was asked for his thoughts on the “Olodo uprising.”
Responding, he said, “I think everybody already knows the problem. Do we want it to continue? No.”
He stressed that Nigerians must demand more from their elected officials, saying, “Nigerians need to hold their leaders accountable.”
Akah further argued that lawmakers should ensure politicians’ children are educated within the country, stating, “Lawmakers need to make it mandatory that the children of politicians do school here.”
According to him, many citizens wrongly assume politicians genuinely care about the state of public institutions. “We think that these politicians care about us. They don’t. And they’re not going to make it better until it begins to pinch them.
Their children can’t be going abroad, and then our public schools are going, you know, bad,” he said.
He concluded by urging Nigerians to actively engage their elected representatives, saying, “So I think that that’s the first step. Make sure that you hold your political leaders, hold your legislative arm accountable. Let your senators, your House of Reps, tell them what you want.”
