Laurie Idahosa Shares How She Influenced The Life Of A Teenage Mother Years Ago & Helped Her Baby Survive

If you know me well, you will know this story and the gift that these young ladies are to my life. Being with them fills my heart with so much joy. The road may be long, the journey may be filled with ups and downs, but, but in the end, when you obey God and impact someone’s life positively, it is worth it! They are worth it. ♥️🕊

Our story, as shared in 2018:

In 2008, on an outreach to Central Hospital in Benin City, I met a young teenage girl who had given birth to a highly premature baby. The Chief Matron of the maternity ward asked me to help settle her hospital bills so that she could be discharged, but told me clearly that her prognosis was not good. For many reasons, they didn’t expect the newborn to survive even days outside of the hospital.

I shared her story with my husband, and with his agreement, we settled the bills and moved the mother and child (whom were staying in an abandoned building during the pregnancy) from the hospital into our home. We began to take care of the baby, who didn’t weigh more than 1kg, under the guidance of pediatrician, Dr. Asemota, who was making daily visits to her, free of charge. We would feed her every 2 hours with a syringe because of her prematurity and inability to nurse or take a bottle.

I remember the day that she came home. Her mother asked me to name her and I named her “Baby Destiny.”

Now, my “Baby Destiny” is a big girl, healthy, strong and very intelligent. This is a picture of her with me, this past Christmas. We have continued to love her, support her and take care of her ever since that day that God made sure that we met her in Central Hospital.

Note: Destiny is no longer a baby. She is graduating this Wednesday from @wofschool in Benin City. Help me congratulate her!!!!
