Lady Who Relocated To Dubai & Got Stranded With No Job Finally Succeeds, Shares Her Success Story
Pretty lady named Kimberly Ofori has shared her journey to success after encountering challenges while she relocated to Dubai. Sharing the news on LinkedIn, she wrote;
I got stranded. Literally.
After I decided to say NO to a promotion at the bank I was working for in Amsterdam, I wanted to do something completely different. Different, was moving to Dubai. A place I had never been before.
So I quit my job, and gave up the lease to my house, packed my bags and bought a one way ticket to the United Arab Emirates. Crazy? Wait till you hear what happened next.
I had secured a cool job that came with a housing plan, a good tax free salary and other perks. I was scheduled to start working the day after I arrived.
I was all hyped up, ready for my new life and feeling incredibly grateful.
But when I arrived at the office, the director looked shocked. Her face turned white and I could tell, something wasn’t right.
An hour later, we both stood outside in front of the office building as she handed me an envelope. It was my one month salary advance, a courtesy for my trouble.
Turns out, they decided to pull the plug on the vacancy at the last minute, but they couldn’t reach me to tell me not to come in anymore.
And just like that, I got stranded in Dubai, with nothing but the clothes on my back and the 1 month salary advance.
I could have gotten on the next available flight home. Instead, I decided to figure things out.
It took me 6 months of applying for 70+ jobs, multiple unsuccessful job interviews every day, living off of water, tea, crackers and instant noodles before I realised what was wrong.
All this while, I never told anyone what happened back home. And being an introvert and a little proud, I was terrified of making new connections and asking for help. I was telling myself, I could do this by myself like I always have.
I was standing in my own way.
It wasn’t until one day, knowing that there may not be any more money to live off any longer, that I decided to wake up. I had to get out of my comfort zone, get uncomfortable.
I ended up cold calling a dozen companies, going door to door, until I secured a job interview that turned out to be the job I kept for the years that followed. I was so proud.
Sometimes, we look at our circumstances and blame everything and everyone around us for things not working out.
But maybe, we need to challenge ourselves a bit more and find out what we can do differently today, to get to where we want to go.
Even if that means, doing the things you would have never thought you’d have to do before.
