‘I Have Fond Memories Of Her Care’ — Ribadu Condoles With El-Rufai Over Mother’s Death

Nuhu Ribadu, the national security adviser (NSA), has expressed sadness over the death of Hajiya Umma, mother of Nasir el-Rufai, former governor of Kaduna.

Bello el-Rufai, the ex-governor’s son, announced the death of his grandmother in a post on X on Friday.

Umma reportedly died in Egypt, where she was receiving medical care.

In a condolence message on X, Ribadu said he was “deeply saddened” to learn of her death, recalling personal moments shared with the deceased.

“I have fond memories of shared moments with her and her motherly care,” he said.

Ribadu noted that the loss is profound and difficult to articulate, adding that words may not be enough to console the bereaved family at a time like this.

He extended his condolences to el-Rufai and the entire family, praying for strength and comfort for them as they mourn.

“May Almighty Allah forgive her shortcomings, grant her eternal rest in Aljannah Firdaus, and give the family the strength to bear this loss,” he wrote.

In February, the Department of State Services (DSS) filed a three-count charge against el-Rufai for allegedly intercepting the telephone conversation of Ribadu.

During an interview on ‘Prime Time’, an Arise Television programme, el-Rufai said “someone wiretapped” Ribadu’s phone, allowing him to listen to the NSA instructing security operatives to effect his arrest.

El-Rufai, who has been in the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) since February 19, was released on compassionate grounds on Friday after his mother’s death.

On Tuesday, he was arraigned alongside one Joel Adoga at the federal high court in Kaduna over charges bordering on alleged money laundering, fraud, and abuse of office.

The former minister and Adoga pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The court had adjourned his bail application to March 31.
