How Being Stubborn Helped Me After Big Brother House – Erica Nlewedim Opens Up
Nigerian actress, reality TV star, and popular of Big Brother Naija former housemate Erica Nlewedim, is talking during an appearance on Arise Tv about her life after the show, and how being stubborn really helped her from straying down wrong paths and living a life above her means. Here’s what she had to say.
Speaking about life after Big Brother house, and how her stubbornness helped her in managing it, Erica Nlewedim said:
ERICA NLEWEDIM: Usually, the one thing people get scared of is being famous and broke. When you come out, everybody is like “oh my god”. Before Big Brother, I used to walk into Chicken Republic or just the regular places to eat, but after, when I’d go in, people would start screaming. So I knew I couldn’t go to certain places. I went for like the first few days, and then I had to be like okay, I can’t try that again.
But also, I now decided that I have to start packaging myself like a celeb and that puts unnecessary pressure, because when I wear certain things, they start breaking down the price. ‘Oh Erica wore this bag, and the bag costs so so million’, so I was like okay, if you let stuff like that get into your head, you can start living above your means and start being forced to do certain things that you’re not supposed to do just to keep that image.
So one thing I’m very grateful for is that first of all, I’m very strong minded. In fact, I started repeating clothes intentionally just because people would be like ‘Erica, you’re not behaving like a celeb. Celebs don’t wear clothes twice.’ And I’m like, you, do you not wear clothes twice? So I’ll wear clothes twice, you didn’t buy it for me. I was stubborn and didn’t let people get into my head.
The one thing that people should know is that you should work first before you start showing off. That is the one thing. It’s not everybody that would be blessed to have a million fans, there are some people that it’s even years later that they blow properly.
Some of us that got a lot of fans immediately, it can be hard to maintain it because it’s a lot to handle mentally so people can crash and burn. So you should block out the noise and work towards the level you want to be.
