“He Started Announcing Deaths At Eight”- Ebuka Obi’s Parents Reveal His Spiritual Journey

The parents of popular Nigerian evangelist Ebuka Obi have opened up about the extraordinary experiences they witnessed while raising their son, revealing childhood events they believe pointed to his eventual path in ministry.

In a documentary-style video released by the media team of Zion Prayer Movement Outreach, Chief Ogbuehi Vincent Anozie Obi and his wife, Nneoma Nwere Ugwu Veronica Obi, shared personal accounts of Ebuka’s upbringing and the unusual signs they noticed from an early age.

Speaking from Lagos against a gold-and-white backdrop, Veronica revealed that the circumstances surrounding Ebuka’s birth were preceded by a prophecy.

According to her, she was told during pregnancy that she was carrying twins and that one of the children would eventually dedicate his life to God’s service.

She said Ebuka was born without hair, while both twins developed unusual physical conditions within their first two weeks, experiences she interpreted as signs of a special spiritual calling.

Veronica further disclosed that she subjected the newborns to a partial fast for seven days, from 6am until noon, despite their crying for food during the period.

As Ebuka became older, she said his unusual behaviour continued. By the age of eight, according to his mother, he had begun speaking about deaths that would occur in their neighbourhood.

She admitted that the development initially frightened her, prompting her to discourage him from making such pronouncements because she feared the reaction of people if his predictions failed to happen.

His strong interest in spiritual activities also reportedly manifested during his primary school years. Veronica recalled that Ebuka would secretly leave home to attend crusades in neighbouring towns, sometimes returning late at night.

She said that whenever he arrived home after the expected time, she would quietly pass his food through a window to him in an attempt to prevent a confrontation between him and his father.

At school, Veronica said teachers also noticed that Ebuka behaved differently from his classmates. Rather than joining other pupils during break periods, he was reportedly fond of sitting in the branches of a cashew tree while reading his Bible.

She added that older pupils sometimes mocked or bullied him for arriving late to school, explaining that he often attended morning Mass before heading to class.

According to Veronica, another unusual incident involved people who attempted to physically discipline her son. She claimed that anyone who beat him would mysteriously end up falling to the ground.

Meanwhile, Chief Vincent Obi said he had little difficulty coming to terms with his son’s decision to pursue ministry.

The proud father explained that after realising Ebuka’s commitment to his spiritual path could not be changed through parental intervention, he decided to leave him in God’s hands.

He said he was satisfied with the direction his son’s ministry had taken, adding that he eventually “left him to God.”

Despite his acceptance of Ebuka’s calling, Chief Obi revealed that he has one major personal request for his son: marriage and children.

Since Ebuka is not a Catholic priest who is required to remain celibate, his father said he would like him to choose a wife and start a family.

“He should get us a wife of his choice who will now beget children. That’s all.”

Chief Obi concluded by assuring Ebuka’s followers that they should expect even more from his ministry, declaring that his son’s work “is just coming. It has not ended.”
