Grace Bassey, Nollywood Star Turned US Navy Officer, Announces Engagement
Grace-Charis Bassey Effah, the Nollywood actress turned United States navy officer, has announced her engagement to her partner.
The actress shared the news in a Facebook post on Tuesday, alongside photos of herself and her fiancé. Although she did not reveal his identity, she showed off her engagement ring in the pictures.
“Answered prayers,” she said.
“It feels like a dream, but when true love finds you, you melt.”
She did not share details about the proposal or reveal her fiancé’s name but expressed happiness and gratitude as she celebrated the milestone.
The engagement marks a new chapter for Bassey, who left Nollywood in 2025 to pursue a military career in the United States.
Bassey, formerly known as Belinda Effah, made headlines after graduating from the United States Navy boot camp and becoming a citizen after taking the oath of allegiance.
She dedicated the achievement to Asido Bassey Effah her late father who was a retired naval commander.
The actress had earlier explained that she stepped away from acting because she was no longer finding fulfilment in the profession.
She also revealed that joining the US navy had been a lifelong dream, having attended the Nigerian Navy Secondary School in Port Harcourt and grown up in a military family.
Grace made her Nollywood debut in the 2005 TV series ‘Shallow Waters’. She then took a break from the series to feature in the reality show ‘Next Movie Star’.
She won several awards throughout her career, including the ‘Most Promising Act of the Year’ award at the 9th Africa Movie Academy Awards.
In 2021, she publicly announced that she had changed her name from Belinda to Grace-Charis after what she described as a divine encounter. She explained that her former name had a complicated meaning, prompting the switch.
