Ghanaian-Born American Entrepreneur Left His Well-Paying Job In The US To Establish African-Inspired Snacks Back Home

This Ghanaian-born American entrepreneur left his well-paying job in the US to establish African-inspired snacks back home.

With a burning desire to create snacks that represented the Black food culture, Jamie D. Saleeby returned to Ghana in 2017 to establish Sankofa Snacks, after saving his seed capital as an executive assistant at a personal care products company.

Sankofa foods is an entity that retails assorted plantain chips.

The company has built its own distribution network to deliver the bags of chips across the West African country.

The chips are currently sold for around US$0.80 per bag in supermarkets across Ghana and export to Nigeria, Côte d’Ivoire and the US.

In the US, Sankofa Foods hopes to sell plantain chips through e-commerce sites like Amazon.

A key strategy to success in the American market will be to create a strong brand that is able to tell a story.
