The amazing story of a koko seller who is now Ghana’s first female aircraft marshaller

Legit.ng has learnt that Felicia Edem Attipoe, who used to sell porridge by the roadside, has set an impressive record.

Attipoe, who is a single mother, has been recognized as Ghana’s first female aircraft marshaller She has been honoured by the organisers of Ghana’s Most Inspiring Women’s Award as the ‘Most Inspiring Woman in Aviation.’ Information available shows that Attipoe lost her marriage at the age of 23 after she travelled outside the country with her husband.

With over eight years of work experience as a secretary for the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), she returned to Ghana to work as a secretary in the Ramp section, which is the marshaller’s office. Along the line, she resorted to selling porridge at the train station in a bid to supplement her income. Per a report by Kasapafmonline, she dreamed of becoming an aircraft marshaller, even though the task is traditionally for men. She was soon added to the trainees after convincing her boss she was capable. However, she failed the written test after three attempts. Attipoe later passed the exam and in addition, holds certificates in Aerodrome Safety, Certificate in Marshalling and Radio Telephony from the Aviation School.
