June 21, 2020, marked Father’s Day and many fathers used the opportunity as a day to not only celebrate but reflect on their experiences as fathers.
A Nigerian man identified as Latunde Akin recently melted hearts with his story. In a post shared to his Facebook page, the father of 4 recounted how he lost his well-paying job and was forced to hawk chinchin; a fried snack popular in Nigeria.
Akin who learnt the craft from his mom said he used to sell to suppliers and also hawk on the streets.
The hardworking man stated that due to the embarrassment he felt hawking on the streets, he wore a cap to hide his face from people who knew him.
Akin also noted that despite going through what he went through, his neighbours never bothered to ask what had happened to him.
Determined not to make his family suffer, the father of 4 revealed he worked extra hard to make a profit from his chinchin business; a business he started with a N20,000 loan he got from a friend. Part of his post reads: “Immediately the good job stopped, I determined within myself that, my family will never suffer as a result of this. That was my ultimate goal. A friend borrowed me 20,000 which was used to buy flour and other ingredients.
Father’s must begin to take responsibilities and surmount every problem that faces them. Lazy people are making themselves useless. It was really laborious for me because my wife had a job she was doing then. Whenever she arrives from work, she will assist in some areas. But I am the one that knows how to do the pastry most. I learnt it from my mother.”
Akin further recounted how he prayed to God to help his situation and he received a message from God telling him to mark the 40th day from the day of his prayer. He did and he soon got a call about a proposal he had submitted for a proposal. “The caller said, I had submitted a business proposal since 4 years ago and they had approved it same 4 years ago. He said can I come and execute it now? I was speechless. 4years ago! I went to Lagos and executed the project. Within a week, about 600,000 entered into my account. Quickly, the Lord took chinchin stress away from me and I graduated into other things. Praise God.”
Akin ended his message by urging fathers to be good and responsible. According to him, fathers should be more useful for their immediate families and society. “Let us uphold the principle of dignity in labor,” he said.
