Excited Lady Shares How She Got Hired By Shell Through The LinkedIn Platform

An excited lady named Temi Kutelu who just got hired by Shell says she got the job through LinkedIn.

She also went further to admonish job seekers saying, you do not need anyone in an organization before you apply.

She wrote:

Hey LinkedIn Fam,

Happy to inform that I joined the Integrated
Resourcing team within SHELL as an Experienced Recruiter.

I saw the advert for the role on LinkedIn and applied (technically speaking, LinkedIn got me this job). I forgot about the application until one nice sunny afternoon, I got a call, and it was from Shell…. chai, I wasn’t prepared fa…. braced up and asked my caller if I could ring back in 10 minutes – you know I must coordinate now (yes o, recruiters also need to prepare).

Imagine my surprise when he said, “Its ok, I will ring you back in 10 minutes” surprising!

After 10mins, I was like Ha! what have I done. Lots of people would have applied for this role o. I started looking at my phone and chastising myself for asking for 10mins. Hope say I never lose this opportunity like this? Well, in exactly 17min (yes, I was counting) my phone rang, and it was same number… I heaved a sigh of relief and the process commenced, it lasted for about 40 something minutes after which I heard the usual if you are successful at this stage, you will get an email for details of the next level interview…
On and on it went till I got to the final stage…. Where I had to speak with the VP. Imagine my shock when at that stage, he said we are talking to other candidates… Oga bia bia you better not talk to anyone else at this stage o… Level 4 fa, nitori Olorun.

Then came the call, you are the successful candidate. The journey has begun, and I would like to thank everyone involved in the process.

Note to Jobseekers :

  1. You do not need anyone in an organization before you apply. As was my case with this role. I have heard a lot of people say you can’t get into certain organizations without knowing someone. Well, my case was different, grace I believe.

2.. In the words of Taiwo ‘Dayo-Abatan, ‘If you don’t have a picture of what you are looking for, you will wander in life’. Do not be a professional wanderer, be intentional about your next role and the kind of organization you are looking to join as this will guide you as you go along.

  1. Take the chance and apply for that role but before you do, as Yemi Faseun would rightly say, “first be credible, then be authentic” meaning be who your CV says you are.
  2. Review your resume and ensure it is properly aligned to the role you are applying for.

Wish me success as I commence my new journey with this world class organization.

Cheers.
