Don Jazzy Addresses Claim Of Favouritism At Mavin Records
Michael Collins Ajereh, the music executive popularly known as Don Jazzy, has dismissed the reports that Mavin Records gives preferential treatment to some artistes over others.
Speaking on a recent episode of The Crea8torium podcast, the producer stated that it would be illogical for a record label to invest resources in an artiste only to neglect them in favour of another.
He explained that artistes who have been less active or who release fewer songs are making those choices themselves, not the label.
According to Don Jazzy, impostor syndrome and overthinking are often behind the claims of neglect from artistes who feel their colleagues are being favoured.
“We do see lots of comments that we do not prioritise some artistes. But that isn’t true. It’s like I would just carry my money and just throw it away, just lock it inside somewhere. We invest in people to make us and themselves money,” he said.
“So the idea that we would have artistrs and not want to prioritise them is not real. If you see an artiste in Mavin and the artiste only releases one or two songs in a year, just know that it is the artiste:s decision.
“If the artiste has 1 million songs and they want to release them, we can release them. Most of them actually have imposter syndrome. It’s normal.
“We are all human beings, so sometimes they can panic and overthink things. But there is no such thing as prioritising one artist over another.”
