Bob-Manuel Udokwu: Why I Avoid Social Media

Bob-Manuel Udokwu, the Nigerian actor, has revealed why he has remained largely inactive on social media, calling the space a hub of unnecessary distractions.

In a recent post shared on his Instagram page, the seasoned filmmaker argued that many of the topics that trend online have little to do with the everyday hardships Nigerians face.

According to the 59-year-old, the irrelevant discussions continue to dominate public attention and consume both time and data.

“Social media has become something else in Nigeria,” he wrote.

“Most times things that have little or no relevance to the day to day struggles of the people go viral and consume valuable time and data from the same traumatized people.”

The actor also voiced his frustration over the high levels of online bullying, name-calling, and toxic exchanges that have become common across platforms.

Udokwu explained that his decision to stay quiet was a deliberate one, adding that he preferred to observe conversations from the sidelines while focusing on his craft.

However, he hinted that due to growing calls from fans, he now plans to become more active online.

“It baffles me! Too much dragging and trolling everywhere! I really don’t regret my choice to stay quiet and read from the sidelines while the job is done,” he added.

“I am sure you would agree with me on this? However due to popular demand I will be more active in posting engaging my fans from now on….. How una see am.”
