Actor Benedict Johnson Critically Ill, Needs Surgery
Actor Benedict Johnson Critically Ill, Needs SurgeryBenedict Johnson, the Nollywood actor, is currently receiving medical attention for an undisclosed health condition that requires surgical intervention, the Actor’s Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has confirmed.
Abubakar Yakubu, the AGN president, confirmed the development to TheCable Lifestyle on Saturday, addressing concerns raised by a viral video showing Johnson inside an MRI scanning machine.
The footage had generated significant public speculation regarding the actor’s health status.
Yakubu acknowledged the guild’s awareness of Johnson’s condition and affirmed its commitment to providing necessary support.
“Yes he is ill. Actually, he is actually ill. And requires surgery. The guild is aware and we are lending all our full support to ensure that he undergoes this surgery,” he said.
Johnson, a graduate of Mass Communication from Abia State University, Uturu, began his acting career with the pioneering Nollywood production ‘Living In Bondage’ and later appeared in ‘Stolen Bible’. Prior to acting, he ventured into music in 1988 and recorded his first demo between 1989 and 1990, before departing from his group, The Dready Boys.
In March, Johnson recounted a difficult period in his career, revealing that he had gone five years without securing any acting role.
He noted that no filmmaker contacted him during that time, prompting his relocation to Abuja to participate in prayer programmes led by Jerry Eze, despite advice from colleagues that Abuja was not a viable base for film production.
