“5 Days At Deloitte, I’ve Learnt Things I May Not Have Been Able To Learn In 5 Years Elsewhere”- Says Young Man Who Resumed Work At Deloitte Nigeria After Completing His NYSC In Year 2021

Audit Associate at Deloitte Nigeria has shared his career journey on how he finally landed a job after completing his mandatory NYSC scheme.

The excited young man shared a lengthy post on LinkedIn with friends, read his post below:

I am excited to be part of the biggest professional service firm in the world!

On the 21st of October, 2021 was when I rounded up my mandatory NYSC scheme. The normal ‘I must get a job quick’ syndrome which most outgoing NYSC members normally have caught up with me also. I started applying for things that were not even relevant to my profession nor skills. Yes, I got a job offer from one of the top cinemas in Nigeria but on my day of resumption, I knew the job function did not align with my skills set, which was borne out of careless applications. I felt my career value was going to drop if I continue (this is without any form of pride).

I took a decision that such incident would never reoccur and I will only apply for specific jobs that are within my interest and capacity. Then I started applying. The next stage thought me that rejection is part of the process. I got rejected my different big companies a couple of times after getting to reasonable stages. Although one thing was consistent, I experienced progress in subsequent trials.

I am a graduate of Estate Management & Valuation but I have always had interest in the Audit field. This interest came when a financial Institution I was shortly with was being audited. I am a big fan of excellence and productivity in whatever people do. “What is worth doing, is obvious worth doing well” is one of my mantra. That was what drove me into applying for Audit in Deloitte.

Fast-forward to the recruitment process of Deloitte, I experienced a totally different recruitment culture. A seamless and well educative process. Although, at one point, I felt I was never going to nail it.

Alas, it came through!

It was a joyful moment but I still had fears and doubt. Can I cope? Will I be able to meet up to expectations judging that I am coming from a different field entirely? This thoughts kept ringing in my head till we began the onboarding program.

In 5 days at Deloitte, I have been able to learn things I may not have been able to learn in 5 years elsewhere. The shared values aligns with the attributes I need, not just to make impact in the firm but also in the lives of the people around me, in my community, in my nation and in the world at large. Making the impact that truly matters can well be achieved if I can become a leader who serves with integrity, fosters inclusiveness, collaborate to make measurable impact and exhibiting love to others.

I am grateful for the opportunity of being a member of the deloitte family.

I am glad to announce my assumption as an associate in the audit and assurance department at Deloitte Nigeria. I’m looking forward to learning and working with other great minds at different levels.

It is presently a dream come through for me but, another dream can be birthed when one dream becomes a reality. The extended dream is to grow to a very high level in this career. I would sincerely appreciate one or two advice.
