27-Year-Old Lady Achieves Her Dream Of Becoming A Medical Doctor After Grand Mother Dies Of Hypertension
When Dr Biotumelo Theepe was still a child and queuing in the early hours outside a Soweto clinic for medical attention for her grandmother’s hypertension – Dr Theepe made a silent promise to herself that she would be a doctor one day and never looked back.
She attended the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls and went on to obtain a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) from Stellenbosch University.
Dr Theepe is passionate about looking at ways to improve the structural functioning of South Africa’s healthcare system.
“I am really interested in working out how we can put systems in place to release the burden on the healthcare system,” she says.
Dr Theepe is currently a Medical Doctor at Middleburg Hospital. She was raised by her grandmother, whom she looks up to and is forever grateful to Oprah Winfrey, for giving her an opportunity to thrive.
Dr Boitumelo Theepe – Quote:
“My work is the most rewarding and yet challenging, the real wealth that comes with what I do is the smiles and lives that I get to touch.”
