Why I’m Sceptical About Joining Politics- Davido

Davido says he is reconsidering his interest in politics, expressing concerns that a move into governance could negatively affect the music career he has spent years building.

The Afrobeats star spoke during a live Twitch session with streamer Davrel, where he revealed he once had a strong desire to pursue politics.

He said, however, after observing the struggles faced by fellow celebrities who transitioned into the political space, he has become more cautious.

According to him, moving from entertainment to governance is far more challenging than it appears.

“Before, I wanted to go into politics. But now, I see it two ways,” he said.

The Grammy-nominated artiste explained that he has invested years in building his name, brand, and fan base, and he is uncertain whether risking it all for politics is the right decision.

“All my years of goodwill, my name and my career, all the hard work and the fan base we have built, it is tricky,” he said.

Davido also noted that people perceive politicians differently from entertainers, and that shift in perception could negatively impact his public image.

“I feel like if you are a politician, you are a politician. It is like it is their business,” he said.

The singer hails from a prominent political family in Osun state, where Ademola Adeleke, his uncle, serves as the state governor.

The singer’s comment comes a few months after he announced his formal entry into politics in December 2025, declaring his intention to join the Accord Party (AP).

Born David Adeleke, Davido rose to fame in 2012 after releasing ‘Dami Duro,’ the second single from his debut album ‘Omo Baba Olowo’.

He has established a name for himself as one of Africa’s leading artistes as well as one of the Afrobeats ‘Big Three’.
