His comments were prompted by the recent celebration of American citizenship by influencer Tunde Ednut.
Emphasizes the potential benefits of having dual citizenship, such as increased opportunities and security.
Nigerian comedian and former Big Brother Naija star, Aderombi Adedayo Martin, popularly known as Deeone, has shared his thoughts on the value of obtaining a second citizenship, particularly in relation to the recent celebration of American citizenship by Instagram influencer Tunde Ednut.
Deeone responded after Tunde Ednut posted pictures on Instagram celebrating his new American citizenship.
In the photos, Ednut was seen wearing the US colors and holding his US passport, with the US flag in the background. He also shared a recognition award he received from former President Joe Biden, the Lifetime Achievement Award.
While Deeone congratulated Ednut, he expressed his belief that gaining a second citizenship, particularly American, shouldn’t be seen as a major accomplishment. Deeone emphasized that for Nigerians, the Nigerian passport remains a significant symbol, asserting that no citizenship could replace the value of one’s origins.
He further pointed out that even though Tunde Ednut is now an American citizen, it is Nigeria that helped shape his career and financial success, as much of his wealth is derived from his Nigerian roots.
In his words:
“Nigerian youths stop celebrating another passport, Congratulations to Tunde Ednut, it is not a bad thing but it is not an achievement, getting another citizenship as a Nigerian no be achievement, if it happens fine, but no go out of your way. Nigerian passport is the best you can have as a Nigerian. Today Tunde Ednut dey celebrate him American citizenship but na Nigeria e dey make him money,” Deeone said in the video.
