TikToker Peller Granted N500k Bail With Two Years Tax Clearance Certificate After Being Arraigned For Thr+atening And Recording Police Officers

Popular TikToker Habeeb Hamzat, popularly known as Peller, and his associate, Bello Oladipo, have been arraigned before a Lagos Magistrate Court over their confrontation with police officers on Lagos’ Coastal Road.

The duo appeared in court on Sunday, July 6, on a three-count charge bordering on allegedly resisting public officers, obstructing them from carrying out their lawful duties, and thr+atening and recording police officers while they were on duty.

The charges stem from an incident on July 2 after Peller was intercepted by police for allegedly driving a vehicle without a number plate. Peller had insisted he had just purchased the car, while the officers maintained he had to accompany them to the station.

The situation escalated after the TikToker began filming the encounter, later alleging that officers became hostile, dr@gged his shirt and pointed a g¥n at him.

According to the charge sheet, the defendants allegedly conspired to resist public officers, an offence punishable under Section 411 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015. They were also accused of obstructing ASP Agbede Victor and three other officers in the discharge of their duties, contrary to Section 117(1)(2) of the state’s criminal laws.

The third count alleged that the pair “did unlawfully conduct yourselves in a manner likely to cause breach of public peace by thr+atening and videoing police officers while performing their lawful duties and thereby committed an offence p¥nishable under Section 168 (a) & (d) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015.”

Both defendants pleaded not guilty to all three counts.

The court subsequently granted them bail in the sum of N500,000 each with two sureties, one of whom must be a bl++d relative. The court also directed them to present two years’ tax clearance certificates as part of their bail conditions.
