“So Many Brand Managers Turned Her Proposal Down Because They Didn’t Understand What She Wanted To Do”-Hilda’s Friend Speaks
As shared by Chukwudi Iwuchukwu on facebook
Someone close to Hilda told me about her and how she conceptualized the historical idea that we just witnessed and then went to work looking for funding to make the idea a reality.
Not many brands took her seriously.
So many brand managers turned her proposal down because they didn’t understand what she wanted to do or what it was all about.
I wonder how those brands and brand managers are feeling this morning.
Those disappointments did not deter her, as she kept pushing and knocking on doors.
She wants to make the point that women who look like her can be smart, break the glass ceiling, and inspire the next generation of girls that impossible does not exist and is just a word.
It is fine when people choose not to support you or turn down your idea, which you believe can change the world.
But what is not fine is when you stop taking a bet on yourself, when you stop pushing yourself, and when you stop knocking on doors.
Remember, you are the CEO of your life.
Nobody other than yourself has the right to determine your final outcome.
So keep knocking on doors.
Keep betting on yourself.
Don’t stop believing in yourself.
Don’t forget, a lot of people, including your friends, family, and brands, will not support you, your brand or your dream until it is cool or popular to do so.
Trust me, it is fine, darling.
I conclude by quoting the eternal words of my friend Toyin Sanwo
“Show up for yourself and write yourself the first cheque.”
