Single Mother Accuses Pastor Of Paralysing Toddler

A Lagos-based single mother, Chidima, has alleged that a deliverance ritual conducted by a pastor in December 2020 left her 16-month-old son with cerebral palsy.

Chidima, who hails from Imo State, claimed that during the session, the pastor turned her previously healthy child upside down in a supposed spiritual exercise. The act allegedly triggered a seizure that caused irreversible brain damage.

Medical reports from the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) confirmed that the child sustained injuries consistent with head inversion, leading to the onset of cerebral palsy.

Chidima said the husband abandoned the family after the incident, leaving her to shoulder the financial and emotional burden alone. Although she reported the case to the police, it was dismissed for “lack of sufficient evidence.”

Now four years old, her son depends on a wheelchair, ongoing therapy, and special education—needs she struggles to meet through her small-scale trading business.

“This has been a nightmare. I only wanted my son to be healed, not harmed,” she said tearfully.
