The actor faced online criticism for not publicly celebrating Danielle’s graduation.
Nollywood actor Yul Edochie has spoken about his relationship with his first daughter, Danielle, whom he shares with his estranged wife, May Edochie.
This comes after the actor previously faced criticism online for allegedly failing to publicly celebrate Danielle during her graduation, while sharing posts about his other children with his second wife, Judy Austin.
During an appearance on the Honest Bunch Podcast, Yul was questioned about the current state of his bond with his eldest daughter.
He explained that they remain on good terms, stressing that Danielle is only 21 years old and may not fully understand his perspective. He added that at that age, he himself did not fully understand his own father, suggesting that he does not hold her reactions against her.
The actor further noted that in family situations like theirs, it is natural for children to lean more toward their mother’s side, describing it as a normal occurrence.
Following his comments, reactions on social media were mixed, with many users expressing anger and disappointment. Some commenters suggested that Danielle might still be emotionally affected by the breakdown of her parents’ relationship.
Others argued that she could struggle to forgive him due to how events unfolded within the family. Meanwhile, a section of users advised the actor to focus more on his career and business ventures, while others criticized his decision to marry another woman amid his first marriage.
In his words:
“We are very close. She is just 21, I don’t expect her to understand me. When I was 21 years old, I didn’t understand my father. There will be a tilt towards her mother; it is a normal thing.”
