-time African footballer of the year Samuel Eto’o has promised to assist at least 100,000 people who have been affected by the coronavirus crisis in Cameroon, BBC reports.
The ex-Barcelona striker who runs a foundation has stated that he will share items including soaps, sanitisers as well as food to help combat the effect of the pandemic in his home country.
At least 50,000 households in four cities namely Douala, Buea, Yaoundé and Bafoussam will directly benefit from this gesture.
“This is a serious humanitarian crisis and only via proper sanitisation and the distribution of health kits can we curb the coronavirus,” read a statement from the Samuel Eto’o Foundation.
Detected cases of coronavirus in Cameroon has increased to 996 while 22 of them have died; 164 of them have recovered and have reunited with their families.
Local football players in the country have taken to social media to cry for help as the first and second tier games have been suspended until further notice.
